Participles

Postby Redacted » April 16th, 2009 5:39 am

Всем привет!

I've been studing Russian by myself for a few years now so I have a pretty good grasp of the language, except...

Participles.
There's active and passive... what's the defference and when would I use them?

Example:
Говорящий
and
Говоримый

Привет, Vanstraiten

I'm not sure that the participle Говоримый exists. At least I have never met it before. You'd better use the participle произносимый.

Active participles are used when we talk about subject which acts upon another subject.
Человек, говорящий по телефону.
The man, who is speaking on the telephone - the man acts upon the telephone

Passive participles are used when we talk about subject which is acted upon by another subject.
Текст, произносимый по телефону
The text, which is spoken on the telephone / The text, which is being spoken on the telephone (at the moment) - the text is acted upon by the telephone speaker
