Yura: Top 25 Russian Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 13: Do you have any brothers or sisters? in Russian (In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Russian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.)
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question "Do you have any brothers and sisters?" In Russian this is
Svetlana: у тебя есть братья или сёстра? (spelling mistake! But I have changed it inFAQ excel)
The first word in the question is
Svetlana: y
Yura: "meaning something like of" in English.
Svetlana: (Slow, by syllable) y
Yura: Listen again and repeat.
Svetlana: y

Yura: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is

Hello Eos,

"У тебя есть братья или сёстры?" means "Do you have any brothers and sisters?" (plural)

"У тебя есть брат или сестра?" means "Do you have a brother or sister?" (singular).

Thats the difference.
