Devan: Okay, let's get into the language learning strategies... |
Peter: ...and how you can apply them right now. |
Devan: Number one- try harder lessons to improve faster. |
Peter: Now, this seems counterintuitive, but it’s the best way to improve. |
Devan: So if you’re an Absolute Beginner or Beginner... try an Intermediate lesson. |
Peter: Listeners, If you go to the gym... it's a lot like working out. If you want to get bigger and stronger, you need to try heavier weights. |
Devan: And don’t worry if you don’t fully understand a harder lesson. |
Peter: ...you will in just a bit. Our teachers break down the conversation in every lesson and translate every word. |
Devan: And with the line-by-line audio, lesson notes, and lesson transcripts... |
Peter: ...you get the complete translations and explanations. |
Devan: So imagine being able to master a conversation that’s above your level. |
Peter: That’s some serious progress. Definitely a great way to learn fast. |
Devan: Number two - put your learning on autopilot |
Peter: So, Imagine you have a bunch of learning apps and textbooks... all those icons on your home screen. All those books piled on a table. |
Devan: Where would you even start? |
Peter: Most learners get stuck here. Wondering where to start, what to do and how to continue. |
Devan: And advanced learners look for ways to put their learning on autopilot... |
Peter: ...so they don’t have worry about what lessons to do now, and what to do later.. |
Devan: ...So, they can actually LEARN. |
Peter: The easiest way is to stick with one textbook, and finish it... |
Devan: ...before moving on. Just follow the pages from page 1 to 2, to 3... until you’re done. |
Peter: Or, make learning into a habit so you don’t have to worry about doing it. |
Devan: Which is easier said than done, Peter. |
Peter: Definitely. You are right about that. So, how can you apply this “autopilot learning” tactic to our program? |
Devan: So, with the Progress Tracking Dashboard, once you’ve chosen your learning level... |
Peter: ...we give you a recommended lesson pathway and FEED you lessons one by one. |
Devan: So it’s like learning on autopilot. |
Peter: The Dashboard gives you the lessons to take, from #1 to #2 to #3. |
Devan: All you have to do is follow it... until you’re done. |
Peter: No worrying about where to start and what to do next.. |
Devan: And, if you like seeing your learning stats... |
Peter: ...the dashboard also tracks your progress: how many lessons you’ve completed... |
Devan: ...the flashcards you’ve studied |
Peter: And the total time you put in. So, you get see your progress grow. |
Devan: Okay, Number three- Read lines from the lesson dialogue out loud, slowly. |
Peter: Then re-read and increase your speed. This tactic is powerful for two reasons. |
Devan: So you can read faster? |
Peter: And you can speak faster, Devan. If you’re reading out loud... |
Devan: Ah, it’s almost like you’re speaking. |
Peter: Exactly. This trains you to speak and speak faster in general. |
Devan: Right. That’s something most beginners struggle with. |
Peter: So listeners, if you’re struggling with speaking or reading... |
Devan: ...try this strategy right now. |
Peter: With every lesson, you get a dialogue. Read the dialogue with the line by line transcript.. |
Devan: ...or with the lesson notes. Read out loud slowly once... |
Peter: ...then re-read a bit faster, then again, and keep increasing your speed... |
Devan: ...until you can say the lines comfortably and sound like a native. |
Peter: And native speakers DO notice if you can speak and respond quickly. |
Devan: Definitely. It’s a sign that you understand them, you’re confident... |
Peter: ...and that they don’t have to treat you like a beginner. It's a great compliment to get. |
Devan: Number four- Review old lessons to master them completely. |
Peter: Listeners, reviewing is a tried and tested strategy. |
Devan: The previous strategy is a form of reviewing, isn’t it? Rereading lines? |
Peter: Exactly. The more times you go over something... |
Devan: ...the better you get at it... |
Peter: ...guaranteed. So for example, if you try our listening comprehension lessons... |
Devan: ...and you only understand about 40%, review the lesson a few times. |
Peter: You have the translations right in front of you. The answers are right there. |
Devan: And by the third or fourth try, you’ll understand it 100%. |
Peter: It’s like that quote says - Repetition is the mother of all learning. |
Devan: Number 5 - Download the dialog tracks and listen to the conversations. |
Peter: Listeners, this is a super popular immersion tactic. |
Devan: Here’s how it works. When you’re done with a lesson, download the dialog track. |
Peter: With this, you get JUST the dialog – the conversation – in your target language. |
Devan: Then, make a playlist of the dialog tracks. Each track is usually about 10 to 30 seconds long. |
Peter: Download them to your device and play them on repeat. That’s it. |
Devan: Yeah, it’s like listening to music on repeat. It gets drilled into your head... |
Peter: ...except here, you’re immersing yourself in the target language. |
Devan: Your listening skills will improve, and you’ll understand each and every conversation! |
Peter: Listeners, let us know what your favorite learning strategies are. |
Devan: Leave us a comment! |
Peter: And remember… |

I find it very difficult to follow the instructors because they speak too fast, even though a repeat the Russian sentence or word it is very difficult to make out what they are saying.
Мне очень сложно следовать инструкторам, потому что они говорят слишком быстро, хотя повторение русского предложения или слова очень сложно разобрать, что они говорят.
