John: This is Must-know Russian Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 22. In this lesson, you'll learn ways to refer to people.

John: Karina, what's our first expression?
Karina: валенок (valenok)
John: This literally means "felt boot," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "as stupid as a sloth."

John: Use this expression when you want to call a person stupid, lazy, or too naive.

John: This literally means "Vanya, Vasya," which are two common names in Russian, but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "someone not very intelligent or interested in culture; stupid."

John: Use this expression when you want to say that a person is strange. This can be used both in a good or bad way.
