Hi, everyone! It’s me Katya with you and Valentine’s Day is our topic today. Do you feel love? It’s around you. Now, let’s begin.
(Den` svyatova Valentina) “Valentine's Day”
(Den` svyatova Valentina) “St. Valentine's Day”
(Ya zhdu ne dazhdus’ Dnya svyatova Valentina.) “I can’t wait for the Valentine’s Day to come.”
The St. Valentine’s Day is quite new to us because we started celebrating it recently. It seems like only since 1990s. So we’re still keeping up with it and we are enjoying it.
2. романтический (ramanticheskiy) “romantic”
“Let’s spend a romantic evening.” (Davay pravedyom ramanticheskiy vecher.)
3. валентинка (valentinka) “valentine's”
It’s a small heart-shaped card, usually red or pink or both, and it is said that you have to leave the valentine’s unsigned because people who receive it should know who it’s coming from. So it’s so romantic!
“I wonder who this valentine's is coming from?” (Interesna, at kavo eta valentinka?)
4. влюбленные (vlyublyonyye) “lovers”
People who fell in love with each other, влюбленные (vlyublyonyye), like falling in love, в любовь (v lyubof’). It’s like “in love.”
“Look at those cute lovers on the bench.” (Pasmatri na etikh milykh vlyublyonykh na lavachke.)
5. часы (chasy) “watch/clock”
So many Russian people believe that you shouldn’t give watch or clock to your lovers, to people you love, your partner, because it’s kind of a sign of you breaking up in the future because it’s considered the clock to kind of count down the time that’s left for you to be together.
(Ne dari chasy na den' Valentina.) “Don't give a watch as a present on Valentine's Day.”
Hey! So it was a lesson on Valentine’s Day and you’re going to be ready for Valentine’s Day soon with some cute valentine’s. Don’t forget that you shouldn’t sign it.
