5. фотоаппарат (fataaparat) “camera” |
Don’t ask me why фотоаппарат (fataaparat) in Russian sounds so long when they are just camera. |
Было бы круто, если бы родители подарили мне новый фотоаппарат. (Byla by kruta, yesli by raditeli padarili mne novyy fataaparat.) “It would be great to get a new camera as a present from my parents.” |

Now in Russian language, emojis or icons sound more like smiley. So we’re sending smileys to each other, you know, the smiley faces, smileys. So come on, send me a smiley. |
7. игровая приставка (igravaya pristafka) “game console” |
Мой сын обожает видеоигры, поэтому я хочу ему купить игровую приставку на день рождения. (Moy syn abazhayet videaigry, paetamu ya khachu yemu kupit' igravuyu pristafku na den' Razhdeniya.) “My son is obsessed with video games, so I'd like to buy a game console for his birthday.” |

So when you say greeting card in Russian, it more has meaning of an open card, the card you’re opening. Usually, it’s close so you have to open and to read what the person is writing to you and the message the person has given to you. So we call it opening card. |
