WORD FOR FORM

Postby Gill » September 11th, 2008 8:55 am

Hi

Having just heard this week's RussianPod101 lesson about, "Where are you papers," I have a query about one of the words in this lesson.

The word for form is said as "Anketa". However, in a Beginners Russian book that I have, it gives the word for form as, "Blank".

Please can someone confirm.

Thank you.

Hi Gill,

Good question !

I have asked around and Pollyanna has offered to explain things a little clearer.

Pollyanna said : The word "Blank" is used when talking about a unfilled form. If we mean a filled in form, "Anketa" or "zapolneniy blank" (a filled-in form) are used much more often. It depends on the context.
When immigration papers are empty, "Blank" (or "Blanki" - plural) is very good. But when you give those forms filled up to the officer, "Anketa" sounds more natural.

Thank you Gill for the question and thank you Pollyanna for shedding some light on this.
